Sport and Physical Education play a central role to life at Saint Felix. Whether in Pre Prep, Prep or Senior School all pupils are encouraged to become actively involved in physical activity either through the curriculum or the extensive extra curriculum programme on offer.
Sport is undeniably an important feature of life at Saint Felix where achievement is recognised, success celebrated and effort applauded. At Saint Felix we strive to develop students’ knowledge and skills in a number of activities. The expert and specialist coaching students receive give every student the opportunity to improve. The Physical Education department at Saint Felix aims to provide pupils with positive experiences in both the individual and team aspects of Physical Education and Sport. We believe all pupils have the potential to achieve in the subject and as a department we strive to provide all pupils with the opportunity to develop physically, acquire new skills and appreciate the importance of good health, cooperating with others and adopting a positive yet sportsmanlike attitude. We attempt to foster a lifelong interest and involvement in sport, health and fitness.
As well as timetabled lessons students are also given the opportunity to play fixtures against other local schools and develop their skills through team practices held at lunchtime and after school. All are encouraged to participate locally at club level and, if talent is shown, are encouraged to trial at county and regional level. A balance exists between the pursuit of excellence and the provision of ‘sport for all’.
For those pupils that have a real interest and enthusiasm for the subject they have the opportunity to study the AQA GCSE PE course in year 10/11 and in the sixth form pupils have the opportunity to study the OCR A Level PE course.
