Gardiner House is a boarding house for boys in Year 7 to Year 11. Alex Grimmer, Houseparent, is supported by two assistant Houseparents Natalie and Jason Hewitt, and House Tutor, Clyde Dunn.
Being the junior house, the boys are all encouraged to study and participate in activities in a home from home atmosphere. Weekly activities include movie nights, gaming nights, cheerleading and band practice. They enjoy socialising and studying together in a more informal setting.
Prefects are selected to act as a bridge between boarders and staff while allowing for extra responsibility including supporting staff with the running of the house, collecting provisions and running a boarding feedback committee. This is used to help focus the activities and trips to the boarders’ interests.
The students are supported pastorally and academically by their house staff. The boarders are guided and supervised during prep time, having access to computers, while school diaries are signed weekly to ensure that prep is up to date.
The boarders are encouraged to take part in extra-curricular activities such as sport and drama both within and outside of school, with staff providing transport assistance. There is a full-time House Matron who takes care of the domestic issues including laundry, ironing and bedding.
Gardiner House has a television room with a wide-screen TV and Piano, a senior gaming room for consoles and computers. There is also a games room, equipped with pool, air hockey and a table tennis table. Gardiner Cellar has PA and professional music equipment in which the boarders participate in supervised band practice.
The house also has a kitchen, with light snacks available to cook at weekends. The house has two laundries; one for use by the matron and the other for senior boarders to do their own laundry if they wish.
Junior boarders are mostly in double rooms with Year 10 and Year 11 allocated a single study bedroom where available. Gardiner House has Wi-Fi throughout the house and cable ports in the communal areas.
We encourage boys to personalise their rooms as they would do at home; with posters, pictures and by using their own bed linen (although we can provide this if preferred).
