Independent Co-Educational Day & Boarding School for Ages 2 - 18. The Best of British Boarding by the Sea.

Somerville House

Somerville House is home for all the girl boarders and a warm welcome awaits students from all around the world.

The girls range from nine to nineteen years old and are all looked after by a dedicated team of professionals that consists of their academic tutors, the housemistress, house tutors, medical staff, graduate/gap assistants and house-keeping staff.

The house has a well-designed bistro style kitchen and girls in Years 11, 12 and 13 have an opportunity to shop for ingredients and cook meals for themselves at the weekends. Learning to cook as well as the responsibility of keeping the kitchen clean is one of the ways the older students learn to prepare for university life.

Most senior students (Years 11-13) have well-designed single study bedrooms, with the convenience of a vanity unit. Many of the rooms have been recently painted and upgraded with new furniture that has resulted in more storage space for personal belongings. Girls up to Year 10 generally share a larger twin bedded room with a vanity unit.  They all have access to a common room where they can relax watching Netflix, Sky TV, a DVD or play on the Wii. There is also a small separate TV and games room where the juniors can watch different or more age appropriate programmes.  Wi-Fi is available throughout the house. There is a Sixth Form only common room where Sixth Form from both the boys and girls houses can meet up in the evenings.

Somerville House also boasts a traditional and formal drawing room offering a very calm and quiet space where girls can read, study or practise music and drama.

Somerville House also have an hour and a half supervised prep on Monday to Thursday evenings between 7.00pm and 8.30pm and Sundays 5.00pm to 6.00pm.

The girls in Somerville House are encouraged to manage all their own commitments and are guided in how to balance their academic, domestic, sporting and social life. All students are expected to join in the variety of weekend activities on offer.
