Nocturnal Fundraiser at Saint Felix
Senior school pupils at Saint Felix School spent the night of Friday 1st December taking part in a multi-sports tournament to raise funds for their new cricket pavilion.
45 students aged between 11 and 18 competed in the twelve-hour Sportathon in House teams, alongside staff who refereed, umpired and even challenged students to a number of teacher-pupil matches across five sports.
Kicking off at 5pm with netball, the competition also included tennis, hockey and badminton. The battle to be overall winner went down to the wire, with the deciding points won in the final match of the fifth sport. After eleven hours of competition, the final match of the fifth sport, football, saw Pemberton House declared victors.
Headmaster James Harrison captained the staff football team in an energetic five a side game that kicked off at 3am. Despite a significant age disadvantage, although much to their delight, the student team beat staff 3 – 2
Barry Collis, PE teacher at Saint Felix, who organised the event said: “It was great to see Saint Felix pupils of all sizes and ages playing alongside and against each other in a competitive way, showing great sportsmanship.”
Sponsorship from the event is expected to raise several hundred pounds which will go towards the development of a new cricket pavilion at the school, scheduled to be ready in time for the 2018 season.
