This week saw the start of British Science Week and a selection of students from year 8, 9 and 10 traveled to St. Catherine’s College Cambridge on Tuesday evening for a lecture on the Evolution of Infectious Diseases and Antimicrobial Resistance.
Led by three research specialists this was an excellent, informative lecture, closing with Henry Cole stealing the moment by posing a thought provoking final question to the panel. On Wednesday evening, some A level Biology students attended an open discussion by scientists from the Babraham Institue and University of Cambridge, on the benefits and risks of Genome Editing, debating how far this technology should go. These lectures are part of the Cambridge Science Festival programme of events which is a two week celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths – featuring fascinating, entertaining and engaging talks and shows.
