Edmond Claims the House Shout Trophy and Oxbridge Interview Success
What a wonderful night of entertainment we were all able to enjoy with House Shout 2023! Four fantastic solo performances, followed by some incredibly well-crafted and energetic ensemble pieces with the shout routines providing a fitting and rousing finale. The students had clearly put a great amount of effort into the choreography, and it was wonderful to see how the different year groups interacted with everyone fully involved. There were so many highlights that it would be invidious to pick out any individual performance given the quality and excellence of the whole evening. Our superb judge (Charlotte Parry) had a unenviable task deciding on the overall winner, and the fact that Edmond won by a single point, shows what a tough job she had. Congratulations to the winning house and all students for their dedication to ensure that the audience had such a pleasurable evening. Our thanks also go to the Music department for their tireless work behind the scenes, as well as to Miss N. Harlock for her help with the sound and lightning that brought such a sense of occasion to the event. And of course, to Mr McLean; what a wonderful host, making sure that the evening ran smoothly despite the fire alarm, entertaining us with his witty asides and own performances, as well as giving the whole competition a sense of fun and energy.
In other news, it is a fantastic achievement for both of our Oxbridge students to have secured interviews next month; it is increasingly difficult for students to even get through to this point in the process given the tough landscape of university entrance for these two esteemed institutions. We are thrilled for them and wish them all the very best as they proceed to the next stage.
It was a pleasure to be able to represent Saint Felix in India this week with a visit to Hyderabad where I spoke at three different schools accompanied by our Chair of the Advisory Board, James Fowler. Hyderabad is a booming city and has rapidly become the IT capital of this great nation; in addition, the amount of real estate ventures that are being undertaken as the city grows, is quite staggering to see. I hope that this visit will enable some meaningful collaborations as well as attracting future students.
As December looms and the Christmas Trees have now been put in place and decorated, the Saint Felix Clough choir will be singing to mark the turning on of the Christmas Lights in Southwold. If you happen to be in the area, please do come and see them in action.
Yours sincerely,
Matthew Oakman
