Order! Order! The Honourable Member for Suffolk Coastal Visits Saint Felix

We are all very much looking forward to the visit of Dr Therese Coffey on Wednesday 14th February where she will be engaging with many of our Senior Department students and staff in the Silcox Theatre. Therese was first elected as MP in 2010 and has been subsequently re-elected three times. As a former Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Therese will be talking to us about her time in government and the cabinet, as well as answering questions submitted by the students. Therese has campaigned on a number of environmental issues both locally and nationally, whilst also working to improve the NHS experience for patients. With an election looming large that has the potential for a change of government, it will be fascinating to hear Therese’s insights on current political topics both domestically and internationally. It is also a wonderful opportunity for our students to actively engage in the world of politics; as the future generation that can shape the direction of travel, it is so important they feel involved in the democratic process and develop a voice that will institute change. I have asked them to submit questions in advance and I have no doubt at all that they will pinpoint some key areas for Therese to discuss.

The Swimming Squad have had enormous success over the course of the four-week County Championships. Across the competition, there were far too many individual medals won by our students to mention, but the following performances deserve thorough recognition; Grace R and Jude G were placed 1st overall in their age category (15yrs), whilst Ben E and Rufus C (16yrs) finished 2nd and 3rd overall respectively. Year 6 pupil, Cody H, also performed well, securing a 4th place finish in the 10/11 years category. The team as a whole, finished in 2nd place, a great achievement. Congratulations to all involved. It is also worth mentioning that four of our students (Ben E, Grace R, Cody H and Charlie H) have also recently qualified for the National Biathlon Championships, taking place at the University of Bath in March.

In addition, Cody H (Year 6) finished an amazing 3rd in the Anglian Schools Regional Final; he ran a strong race and managed to finish 3rd with the two children in front, both in year 7. The future looks bright!
I hope that you will all be coming to see Bugsy Malone next week; I can’t wait to see the fruits of all the rehearsals on Thursday evening.

Yours sincerely,
Matthew Oakman
