A Poetry and Music Evening to Remember

It was such a pleasure to see so many students involved in the outstanding Music and Poetry Evening on Tuesday night. It probably needs to be rebranded now as in addition to the title, there were three Dance performances and an array of dramatic talent on display. The poetry that had been written (or performed) by the students displayed high levels of emotional intelligence and creativity in abundance. Many of the pieces were both poignant and heartfelt spanning across a variety of themes including warfare, friendship, and their younger self. The dramatic elements that interspersed the evening showcased Shakespeare, Moliere and comedy skits all revealing the ability of the students to turn their hands to different styles and genres. The musical pieces were powerful and moving with the violin, double bass, piano and song on all show whilst the dance introduced what I will hope will be a continuing area of development in Saint Felix school life; and who can forget Ms Sheard’s “Sparkles” and their montage piece! What a way for the impresario, Mr Rod Lynch to bow out as he looks forward to retiring at the end of the academic year.

On Friday of last week, we were all treated to a marvellous Art Exhibition in the resplendent cloisters. The jasmine plants are beginning to flower (my very favourite) and the pieces on display from Prep to Senior shone through with creativity, talent and passion. From the surrealism to portraits, photos, and pottery pieces, it is a joy to see the different forms that the students have taken on and developed through deep thought and hard work. With an Arts Week planned for late September, there will be further opportunities to explore the creative, dramatic, artistic, and musical talents of our student body whilst also inviting in local experts to showcase their own individual works. With a trip to Orford and Framlingham Castles earlier in the week, our Year 7 students were able to see and feel the history that they have been taught on a splendid day of exploration and discovery realising that learning takes place in so many different forms and arenas.

Saint Felix continues to thrive on the Athletics track with Cody H winning the ISA National Championships at 1500m! Having set a strong pace from the start, Cody sat behind the leader for the first lap before easing ahead during the second lap gradually increasing the pace and taking over the lead which he extended for the rest of the race finishing an impressive 17 seconds and 120m clear. A fantastic achievement! And in another Quad event against Pakefield, our Year 7 and 8 Boys and Girls were triumphant overall and mopped up the individual titles with Megan C, Isabelle T, Daniel B and Matthew B, all winning their year group competitions. In addition, Lola L and Amelia L finished 2nd and 3rd whilst Charlie M also came 3rd. What an impressive set of athletes and we look forward to their continued endeavours in what is rapidly becoming our most popular sport.

On Saturday we welcomed a throng of Old Felicians from different eras of the school history; from those that left in the 1960s to more recent graduates, it was a glorious day where they were able to bask in their memories and stories of times spent across the campus and in the classroom. They all had a tour to catch up on recent developments and a fantastic lunch accompanied by the jazz piano of Bruno A; with sumptuous weather and fine food, I hope that they all had a day to remember.

School is an important part of our lives, and it is where we potentially forge our greatest and strongest friendships; a theme that has been reoccurring this week with the Poetry Evening and the Year 11 Prom last night where the students looked so smart in their finery to celebrate the end of a long and arduous GCSE season. We wish them all the very best for their summer break and we look forward to saying farewell to our Year 13 Leavers over the next week or so as they have now finished their final A Level.

It has been the very busiest of weeks but wonderfully enjoyable to see our students engaging in so many different activities. Next week follows in a similar vein with trips and residentials aplenty, music recitals and a heavy involvement in the Southwold Arts Festival ensuring that term finished with a bang!

I hope that you can all enjoy the glorious weather this weekend!

Yours sincerely,
