Following an English lesson discussing topical issues currently in the news, a group of Year 11 students at Saint Felix School, Southwold have been inspired to provide practical help for homeless people in the local area.
The students identified Access Community Trust as an ideal beneficiary. Access is a Lowestoft-based charity working across Waveney and the Suffolk Coastal district supporting young people, adults and families with accommodation, health, employment and enrichment activities. Pupils organised a week-long collection amongst fellow pupils and staff for warm clothing to pass on to those in need.
On Tuesday morning, the group of fifteen and sixteen year olds from Saint Felix along with teacher Mr Piers Currie, delivered over 50 items including jumpers, tracksuits and coats to the charity at their main office on the High Street in Lowestoft.
Emma Ratzer, Access CEO said: “We are really impressed with the thoughtfulness of these young students. Whilst homelessness is an ongoing issue, it is particularly difficult at this time of year for the people that we support. As much as the practical benefit of warm clothing, the kindness shown by these students makes a huge difference to the lives of many less fortunate people in and around Lowestoft, and we are really grateful to the school for their support.”
