Well done to all the pupils that took part in the British Shooting Schools Pistol Championships on Wednesday 14th November, hosted by Saint Felix School.
Not only was this the pupils first time competing in this national competition it was also their first ever shooting competition! All the pupils did fantastically well coming up against some strong and very experienced shooters.
Athletes had to shoot 20 qualification shots. (5x shots in 4 minutes on 4x paper targets). The top 8 individual athletes from each age category then progressed to the knock-out final and the top three qualify for the nationals. For the Juniors, Imogen Whyte and William Ellard made it to the final. Imogen finished in 4th position and William finished in 8th position. In the Intermediate category Elodie Whyte, Samuel Stephens, Joshua Stephens and Enya Goddard qualified for the finals. Elodie finished in 5th, Samuel 6th, Joshua 7th and Enya in 8th. In the Senior section Matilda Kime and Hildegarde de la Prada both progressed through to the finals. Matilda finished 5th and Hildgarde finished in 8th.
As well as the individual competition there is also a team competition, where the top three athletes from the same school and in the same age category are totalled to achieve a team score.
Louie Jordan, Isobel Jordan and Ellie Oliver finished in 3rd place in the Intermediate category. Ben Brow, Jacob Hart and Kaspar Goddard finished 2nd in the Junior Category and Enya Goddard, Brooke Oram and Eirinn Cross in the Intermediate category.
Congratulations to the following teams who all finished in 1st place and have all qualified for the national finals at Stoke Mandeville in January.
The Junior Team- Imogen Whyte, William Ellard and Oscar Ferro.
The Intermediate Team- Elodie Whyte, Samuel Stephens and Joshua Stephens.
The Senior Team- Matilda Kime, Hildegarde de la Prada and Jack Barrett Kelly.
A special thank you must go to Tony Bull, the schools shooting coach who has given up many hours of his own time and at no cost to come in and coach the pupils in preparation for this event.
