Saint Felix Celebrates
April 6, 2019

The annual Spelling Bee was held in Gardiner Hall on Wednesday 3rd April and once again the Senior Department gathered to witness students from Year 7 to Year 13 compete for the prestigious prize of champion speller in their Key Stage.

First up were students from Year 7and 8, who set an incredibly high standard. Although Olivia O’Connor, Oscar Ferro and Savannah Ferro all achieved a meritorious 19/20, they were eclipsed by a trio of students who each gained full marks: Brad Marsden, Lola Marsden and Imogen Whyte. In a tense spell-off, Brad was the first to crack and after several sudden death rounds Lola emerged as victor. Congratulations to all Year 7 and 8 students who took part.

At KS4, the field comprised students from Year 10. Again competition was intense, with Lily Ellard emerging victorious – by one point – from joint runners-up Natalie Sandford and Daisy Poll.

KS5 victory went to Lily Talbot, who saw off all-comers for the third successive year, with only one error.
The captive audience played their part, generating an electric atmosphere while remaining respectful to contestants at all times. We now hope that all students will take their new-found enthusiasm for spelling with them into the new term.
