Saint Felix Celebrates
November 12, 2019

Over the weekend of 1st-3rd November 2019, 20 St Felix School Swimming Club swimmers headed to Basildon for the SE East Region Winter Championships. The group swam in over 100 events and contested three relay events over three tough days of racing against some of the biggest clubs in Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

Medal winning performances were achieved by Natalie Sanford and Charlotte Walker, Natalie won a gold (200m IM), silver (400m IM) and two bronze medals (100m IM, 100m Butterfly), breaking the Suffolk Junior record in the 100m IM and 100m Butterfly and Suffolk age-group (15/16yrs) record in the 100m Butterfly. She also qualifed for English Winter Nationals in the 50m/100m Butterfly and 100m/200m/400m IM.

Charlotte won Bronze in a tightly fought 200m Freestyle final, a rewarding result after finishing 4th in the 800m Freestyle earlier in the weekend.

Sam Rose also broke (subject to ratification) the Nofolk ASA junior 100m Freestyle record, dropping from a personal best of 54.37 to 52.83 seconds.

The club also had three relay teams competing, which all finished in the top-8, not bad from a school team in an open age-group event. Swimmers involved in relays were: Collins Saliboko, Goscha Gorovoy, Charlotte Walker, Clara Watson-Flowers, Dennis Mhini, Sam Rose, Finn Jeffery and Noni Thole.

During the weekend there were lots of good individual swims, personal bests, season bests as well as process goals achieved. There is lots to look forward to over the coming months as the season develops.
