Saint Felix School is delighted to announce the successful appointment of a new Headteacher following a rigorous recruitment process. Matthew Oakman, currently Senior Master at Wellington College, will bring a wealth of experience to Saint Felix School and will join in September 2023.
Matthew was educated at the Perse School in Cambridge and then went on to study History at Oxford University followed on by a PGCE at the same institution. Having taught at Bryanston School in Dorset for three years, Matthew joined Wellington College in September 1998 as a teacher of History and Politics and since then has taken on a variety of different roles at the College. He has been a member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) since 2013 as Deputy Head (Pupil Performance), Deputy Head (Academic) and most recently as Senior Master. Outside of his time at Wellington College, Matthew is an avid Tottenham fan and a voracious reader of political literature; he is married to Rossana and they have three adorable ex-stray cats.
Commenting on his appointment, Matthew said:
“I am delighted and thrilled to be the new Head of Saint Felix School. I have already been struck by the warmth of the community and the energy of the students. It is quite clear that Saint Felix is a happy school where each and every student is able to thrive and flourish to become the very best version of themselves. Individualised learning allows all students to find their areas of passion and realise their potential in a nurturing and caring environment that is Saint Felix. With its beautiful grounds and unique coastal and rural location, it is the ideal setting for students to prosper and I very much look forward to leading Saint Felix into the next exciting phase of its journey.”
The announcement comes at the close of an exciting 125th anniversary year in which the school has seen a number of changes across all departments. From extended opening hours in Nursery and new after school clubs for preparatory pupils, to the launch of Saint Felix College for Senior pupils in Year 11 who benefit from a non-uniform, mature learning environment with Sixth Form peers. Major investment has also resulted in the complete refurbishment of Fawcett House – the school’s senior block which opens to pupils in the New Year and includes a state-of-the-art lecture room plus smart new study and social spaces – with development of sports pitches planned for 2023.
