Saint Felix Joins the Round Square Community of Schools

I am delighted to announce that Saint Felix has become a candidate member of Round Square (Round Square), an international community of over 260 schools in 50 different countries. Round Square is a world-wide charitable association of member schools committed to an integrated educational philosophy built around the six IDEALS of learning:

Internationalism
Democracy
Environmentalism
Adventure
Leadership
Service

The schools actively engage with each other based on these ideals where the aim is to inspire and draw out from every child the capacity for personal responsibility, self-discovery, achievement, and excellence, recognising that learning is most effective when it is practical, cross-cultural, and collaborative. The concept of experiential learning is at the heart of Round Square where the character of individual students can be shaped, building their capacity to make a positive difference in the world as globally minded, courageous, and compassionate leaders. We are excited to launch this new initiative and collaboration to our students when they return and look forward to immersing Saint Felix in all elements of the Round Square programme both in the UK, Europe and beyond.

As always, the end of the Spring Term comes with a myriad of different events taking place. Earlier in the week, the boarders planted a Plum Tree as part of the Boarding Schools’ Association (BSA) Plant A Fruit Tree Scheme. Since arriving at Saint Felix, it has been a stated aim to ensure that our environment is nurtured and beautified; with the students having all planted their own tree during the last academic year, we will continue with these initiatives as we look to beautify the wonderful landscape that we have inherited. Other events in the final week of term have included a delightful Easter Pre-Prep Department Chapel Service, an Easter Egg Hunt riddled with taxing clues arranged by the Heads of School and Toby H for the whole community and of course, the finale was provided by the infamous House Scramble. Within this, it was a pleasure to give out so many prizes, awards, and trophies to the students in the final assembly of term recognising their effort and achievements across all facets of school life. Academic, sporting, musical, dramatic and artistic, our students have truly exemplified the key elements of the learner profile as well as the school values.

In sporting news the Under 13 girls travelled to Pakefield for a 7 a side football fixture where the experience of Megan C, Lola K and Clemmie A proved invaluable as they strove to control the game. In the first half Saint Felix created many chances but failed to convert them into goals. The defensive trio of Lily C, Lola L and Henrietta S kept Pakefield at bay for most of the game and despite having only two shots on target, Pakefield won 1-0. Lola L and Megan C were the players of the match. The boys had a tough afternoon at Langley where they benefit from running a Football Academy but showed huge resilience and determination against a strong opposition never wavering and working together as a team. Jude G and Oscar C who are both in Year 10, showed real skill and talent playing against those three years older than themselves, which bodes well for the future. Meanwhile Jude G (Year 11), won an amazing four medals (one Gold, one Silver and two Bronze) at the Junior Para World Series Swimming Championship in Barcelona despite not feeling his best throughout the competition. In addition to this impressive collection of medals, Jude also managed to make the final of the Open Men’s 100m Butterfly with all other finalists over the age of eighteen. Jude now goes on to compete at the British Championships in London later this month having qualified in four events and will hopefully gain selection for the GB World Championship Team; we all wish him the very best!

It has been a long but fruitful Spring Term. The glorious weather over the last two weeks has meant that everyone has finished with a smile on their face but ready for a much-earned break. It has been a term packed full of highlights and student endeavour and I am very pleased that we raised over £300 for Comic Relief with more service and charitable projects lined up for the future. We wish Year 11 and Year 13 all the very best over the Easter break as they prepare for their final examinations; the effort will be worth it, and they will enjoy the Summer break knowing that they have done their very best. As we close the term, we say farewell to Mrs Stebbings who has given so much time to helping our students in the Learning Hub in so many different ways; we wish her all the very best as she moves on to a new adventure.

I hope that you all have an enjoyable Easter and that the glorious weather continues.

Yours sincerely,
Matthew Oakman
