Cambridge Art and Photography trip
On Wednesday 14th November, the Year 10 and Year 11 GCSE Fine Art students, and the Year 10 Photography students visited Cambridge.
The art students spent the day recording from a wonderful array of artefacts from the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, whilst the Photography students produced photo-shoots of shop fronts for their current coursework project.
Visiting a museum, gallery or exhibition is an important opportunity. To practice recording from first hand and direct observation is critical where, too often, students rely far too heavily on secondary sources of information and imagery from screens.
The experience of seeing a 40 metre high totem pole from North America and a real human skeleton from Roman times (famously described in a poem by Sylvia Plath), mysterious objects from Neolithic times and all the many other things from different times, places and cultures, was quite awe inspiring.
The Art students worked with care and focus and made important links to their own projects ‘Connections’ and ‘Transition’.
