English as an Additional Language (EAL)

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Our EAL programme is designed to provide students with a rich and supportive learning environment. At Saint Felix, we celebrate diversity and recognise the unique linguistic journeys of our students. Whether you are a newcomer to the English language or seeking to refine your skills, we are committed to nurturing your language proficiency and fostering a sense of belonging within our school community.

For Years 7 to 9, we offer targeted lessons preparing students for Cambridge English exams, such as A2 Key; B1 Preliminary. In Years 10 and 11, students can take Cambridge IGCSE English Second Language or Cambridge IGCSE English as an Additional Language, depending on their English proficiency. Additionally, we provide EAL support for other GCSE subjects and offer students the opportunity to take GCSEs in their first languages.

Our EAL programme offers many benefits, including improved communicative ability in English, enhanced understanding of the language in everyday situations and social contexts, and greater language-learning skills. This confidence in English enables students to excel across the school curriculum, unlocking their full potential in other subjects.

Notable achievements from our EAL students showcase the success of our programme, with awards in international writing competitions and outstanding results in IGCSE English Language B exams.

In addition to academic growth, students also embrace British traditions and festivals, alongside various festivities representing the diverse nationalities within our school community.
