Drama

Drama is a vibrant and exciting part of Saint Felix’s curriculum that explores ideas in a creative and imaginative ways.

It is essentially a practical subject that develops students’ ability to work in a group, be creative thinkers, structure and develop ideas, present these confidently using a range of dramatic skills and evaluate their own work and that of others.
In the Pre-Prep Department a Drama club is available where imaginative play is at the heart of the sessions, allowing students to creatively explore stories and roles. The annual Nativity play is a wonderful opportunity for students to develop their confidence and performance skills.

Drama in the Prep Department is taught as part of a combined curriculum with Art and Music which culminates in an annual production that involves all the students in the Department as performers, singers and dancers. It also highlights some of their amazing Art work as set, scenery and props. The students also annually watch a performance from a children’s’ theatre company.

In the Senior Department Drama is taught as a discrete subject across KS3 and is available as an examination subject at GCSE and A Level. Regular theatre visits are a key feature of both these courses and these experiences enhance the students’ own practical responses and their appreciation of the art form.

Students in both the Prep and Senior Department are also able to take examinations in LAMDA Speech and Drama from entry to Diploma level. Both individual, duo and group lessons are available and all students are given the opportunity to perform their chosen pieces at one of the three Performance Evenings held throughout the academic year.

Our aim at Saint Felix is to give every pupil in the school the opportunity to be involved in high quality drama productions, whether developing skills in performance, design, stage management or technical areas such as sound and lighting. Productions are effectively supported by the purpose built Silcox Theatre.
