The Saint Felix School Choral Society presents an early evening concert featuring two of the greatest choral settings of the Requiem Mass (the Mass for the Dead).
Mozart’s Requiem was supposedly commissioned by a ‘mysterious figure in a dark cloak’ and was left unfinished at his death at the height of his powers, aged only 35, in 1791. It presents a terrifying vision of The Last Day, when all mankind will be summoned to judgement at the sound of the trumpet. In contrast, Fauré’s gentler setting of the text, composed in the late 1880s, is a plea to the Lord to grant to the souls of the righteous ‘eternal rest’ with all the saints in Paradise.
