A sizeable audience came to hear the Saint Felix Choral Society perform a varied programme of Christmas music in the Chapel on Saturday 23rd November.

Three singing pupils of Vetta Wise, a former Head of Vocal Studies at Saint Felix School, joined the Choral Society in solos and choruses from Part I of Handel’s Messiah and the Fantasia on Christmas Carols by Vaughan Williams.

The concert ended with an unusual piece, a witty arrangement of traditional carols by Holst, with the title Christmas Day.

Choir and audience sang together five Christmas hymns with great gusto, relishing the opportunity to raise the roof to the accompaniment of the magnificent Chapel organ, ably managed by guest organist, Professor David Baker, with support from Holly Playle on the double bass.

Mulled wine and mince pies, served in the interval, added to the festive atmosphere created through words and music: a wonderful way to start our preparations for Christmas.
