Saint Felix Choral Society perform

During the evening of Saturday 27th April, the Saint Felix Choral Society presented their Summer Concert in the School Chapel.

The settings of the Requiem Mass by Mozart and Faure were accompanied by organ, with the unusual but highly effective instrumental combination of Trombone (played by local musician, Marcus Knight) and Double Bass (played by Holly Playle, instrumental teacher in the Music Department) in Mozart’s work.

David Baker, who has two grandchildren in school, both Music Scholars, travelled down from West Yorkshire to accompany the choir. He is a highly experienced accompanist and recital organist and delighted in finding ways of using the many and varied stops of the school’s magnificent Copeman Hart organ to give depth and colour to both Mozart’s terrifying musical vision of the Day of Judgement and Faure’s tender evocation of heavenly peace.

The soloists – current and former members of staff and local singing teacher, William Drew-Batty – and the choir, on the top of their form, brought passion and commitment to their varied and often challenging vocal parts.

Choral Society members and audience alike are now looking forward to an exciting new season of music-making. Rehearsals start again in September and new singers, whatever their previous experience, are very welcome to come along on Monday evenings at 7.00pm in the Chapel.
